Jeff „Siege“ Siegel Quartet

Die vollständige Liste der Musiker, mit denen Siegel gespielt hat, würde Seiten füllen und reicht von John Abercrombie über Sir Roland Hannah bis zu Kenny Burrell, von Ravi Coltrane über Wadada Leo Smith bis Baikida Carroll. Sein Anschlag, sein Timing und seine Flexibilität suchen zweifelsohne ihresgleichen und haben ihm schon diverse Preise eingetragen. Sein letztes Album „Magical Spaces“ wurde von Kollegen wie Ron Carter Und Jack DeJohnette über den grünen Klee gelobt.
Das Quartett selbst ist ebenso außergewöhnlich wie sein Leader: Francesca Tanksley (p) ist mehr als bekannt durch ihre mittlerweile fast 20-jährige Arbeit in Billy Harpers Quintett; und selbst wenn solche Vergleiche berechtigterweise Zähneknirschen verursachen: ihr Spiel steht dem eines McCoy Tyner oder einer Alice Coltrane in nichts nach. – Erica Lindsays (sax, fl) Debutalbum ‚Dreamer‘ wird im Penguin Book of Jazz Recordings unter der Rubrik ‚records that shouldn’t be missed‘ geführt. Neben ihrer Arbeit mit der Beat-Poetin Janine Vega und der Performancekünstlerin Nancy Ostrovsky spielt sie als ständiges Mitglied in Oliver Lakes Big Band und in Baikida Carrolls Quintett.

The Jeff „Siege“ Siegel Quartet, from New York, is touring Europe for the fourth time since 2005. The band’s latest cd release „Live in Europe“ on ARC Records was recorded during two radio concerts the group performed for Radio Bremen and Bayerischer Rundfunk. The quartet features two wonderful women musicians who spent part of their lives growing up in Munich where they began playing together in high school. Now long established members of the New York scene, they continue to perform and compose as both leaders and sidewomen themselves. Erica Lindsay (Oliver Lake, McCoy Tyner) is on tenor saxophone and Francesca Tanksley (Billy Harper Quintet) is the pianist. On bass, joining the group for his first tour with the group, is the master bassist Uli Langthaler from the Vienna Conservatory who has performed with the likes of Mike Stern and Jimmy Cobb. Drummer and bandleader Jeff „Siege“ Siegel worked for many years in the trio of pianist Sir Roland Hanna. He has also performed with Dave Douglas, Ron Carter, Kenny Burrell, Jack DeJohnette, Ravi Coltrane and several others. Jos Demol of Tonesetter (Belgium) wrote of the quartet „The combination of Erica Lindsay’s broad tenor sound with the powerful pianist Francesca Tanksley, the roud, warm contrabass of the bassist Danton Boller (Roy Hargrove) and finesse and accuracy of Jeff Siegel’s playing the drums, levies this quartet to the top in contemporary jazz“.
